About Us

The Monroe County Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) all-volunteer organization dedicated to discovering, preserving, and sharing the history and heritage of Monroe County.

We meet quarterly at 2:00pm on the second Sunday of March, June, September, and December. The location is usually the Monroe County Public Library in Union, but it sometimes varies when we visit places of exceptional interest. Changes in meeting place are announced in the newsletter, in the Monroe Watchman, and on this website.

Please Help

We depend on our volunteers and donors to operate. Volunteers are particularly needed for staffing the museum during the summer months. Monetary contributions, which are tax-deductible, are always needed for the heavy financial burden of maintaining our historic buildings.

Acknowledgements

We are grateful to the agencies, foundations, and individual donors who have provided much-needed support. Major assistance has been received from The Hollowell Foundation, the West Virginia Division of Culture and History, the West Virginia Division of Highways, and many others. Above all, we owe thanks to our volunteers, without whom nothing would happen.
